More mothers survive childbearing today. By prioritizing government spending on health and improving the level of care for pregnant women, the number of women who die from childbearing has dropped by nearly half since 1995. Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia have made the most progress, yet despite the gains, too many women remain at risk.
